The Motorola Defy is Loaded Enough to Go Head-to-Head with the Industry’s Big Dogs

Motorola has released the Android 2.2-powered Milestone 2 smartphone along with scratch, rust and water resistant Motorola Defy which is powered by Google’s Android OS as well, albeit 2.1 Éclair in this instance. With less features than the Milestone 2 and a more rugged look, how will the Defy escape from the shadow of its big sibling? Compare deals for the Defy by going to best-mobile-contracts.co.uk.

Good first impression

The Defy made a good first impression and showed a lot of promise when dissected for review. The device is designed to take on the everyday hazards that life throws at it. In other words, it won’t rust, become scratched or break into a hundred pieces when you drop it on the office floor. It can survive for ten minutes in water a metre deep so dropping it in your aquarium will hardly bother it.

The Motorola Defy has an IP67 level certification which means it conforms to a certain level of phone protection. Whilst it can survive for ten minutes underwater, it doesn’t mean you can update your Facebook status in the shower or use the device’s built-in camera to take up underwater photography.

At home with the big dogs

Apart from its integrated camera, the Motorola Defy is shipped with a 3.7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen boasting 16 million colours. The display runs on Motorola’s Motoblur user interface with multi-touch input method as well as intuitive and sensitive controls.

The display features an accelerometer sensor which auto-rotates the UI to adapt to the phone’s orientation, whether portrait or landscape mode. It also has a proximity sensor which automatically shuts down certain function when the phone is on a call.

If given the right price point, the Motorola Defy can well be a tough force to compete with in the rugged smartphone market. With all its great features, it belongs to the high-end phone category and can lock horns with the likes of HTC’s Wildfire and Samsung’s Galaxy S.
